Description

Trains follows the history, preservation, restoration and initial operation of 2-6-6-2 No. 1309, the Beast of the East, a coal hauler turned into a major preservation piece.

The restoration of No. 1309 is currently experiencing delays, and the estimated ship date of this DVD is unknown at this time.

In this DVD, Trains looks at No. 1309, the last steam locomotive built for domestic use by the famous Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1949. After a short career in the coal fields of West Virginia, the engine went into storage and ended up on display at the B&O Railroad Museum. Acquired by the Western Maryland Scenic in 2014, the locomotive entered service on the 17-mile mountain railroad in 2019. Running Time: 60 minutes plus 15 minutes of bonus footage.
