Description
Railroad flatcars have played an important role in the transportation of goods and materials across the United States since the early days of railroads in the 19th century. The first flatcars were simply platforms with wheels that were used to transport goods such as lumber and coal. As railroads became more sophisticated and rail lines expanded, flatcars became more specialized and were used to transport a wider variety of goods.
Between 1964 and 1975, Trailer Train (now known as TTX Co.) acquired a fleet of 5,000 modern 60′ flat cars. Similar 60’ cars are rostered by most major US railroads. Built by ACF, Thrall, and Pullman Standard, the TTX cars were assigned to various classes to handle loads as diverse as auto frames, logs, military vehicles, farm equipment, and construction equipment. Some were even modified to handle intermodal containers.
Our model is based on the TTX class F60GH cars built in the late 1960s by Pullman-Standard. Equipped with four rows of tie-down tracks, one on either side of the center sill and one along the outside edges of the floor, these wooden-decked cars are assigned to heavy-duty equipment service.
True scale and true to life miniature model for adult collectors.
Not suitable for children under 14 years.
